Maksym Lavrynovych gives expert opinion on Free Trade Agreement with European Free Trade Association
The Ukrainian-Swiss intergovernmental commission met to discuss trade and economic cooperation in Zurich, Switzerland, on 21 October 2010. In the context of this event, the Ukrainian Embassy in Switzerland arranged a meeting between representatives of Swiss companies and members of the official Ukrainian delegation. Maksym Lavrynovych, Managing Partner at Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm, was one of the speakers at the meeting.
Maksym gave his expert opinion on the Free Trade Agreement, signed with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in June 2010, and on the possible impact of the ratification of this agreement on Swiss companies operating in Ukraine.

Stanislav Skrypnyck and Andriy Moroz have met with author of submission to Constitutional Court calling for revocation of 2004 political reform
On October 4, 2010 the Ukrainian Bar Association organized a meeting with the author of the submission to the Constitutional Court seeking revocation of the 2004 political reform, Ukrainian MP Vladyslav Zabarskyi. The discussion focused on the need to amend the current Constitution of Ukraine.

Dmytro Symanov speaks at 9th International Legal Forum
Senior Associate at Lavrynovych & Partners Dmytro Symanov attended the 9th International Legal Forum, where he presented a report entitled «Commercial Litigation Involving Foreign Companies in Ukraine». The forum was held at the Yalta-Intourist Hotel in Yalta on October 1-4, 2010.
In his report, Dmytro Symanov drew the attention of the audience to the opportunities and specific aspects of protecting the rights of foreign companies in Ukrainian economic courts.

Maksym Lavrynovych attends 7th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy (YES)
The 7th annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) entitled «Ukraine and the World: Re-Thinking and Moving On», organized by the Yalta European Strategy in partnership with the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation, was held in Yalta, Ukraine, from September 30 to October 3.
This year’s meeting of the main non-government forum on Ukraine’s global integration mainly focused on re-thinking the basic approaches to economics, politics and international relations, discussing key global threats and challenges, such as climate change, and exploring various models for modernizing the country to adjust it to the current world environment.
Among the YES forum discussion participants there were prominent politicians, public figures and senior EU, Ukrainian and Russian experts. The forum was opened by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski. The special guest was the 42nd US President Bill Clinton.

The Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) held its 2nd International Conference «Beneficial Business Structuring. Best Legal Advice on Tax and Commercial Advantages in Popular Jurisdictions» at the Atlantica Miramare Beach Hotel, Limassol, Cyprus, on September 22-23, 2010.
This year, the conference attracted a record number of participants, including prominent Cypriot politicians, representatives of law and consulting firms, and businessmen.
The conference addressed the issues of doing business in Cyprus, the Netherlands, and Malta. Particular focus was laid on the competition law of Cyprus, in particular on the concentration clearance procedure and on the specific aspects of litigation and arbitration proceedings involving Ukrainian companies. The conference also hosted a roundtable discussion on a wide spectrum of bilateral Ukrainian-Cypriot relations.

The roundtable discussion «Tax Code: First Step Towards Tax Reform» was held in the Ukrainian House in Kyiv on September 23, 2010.
The roundtable participants discussed such vital issues as the future of Ukrainian business after the adoption of the Tax Code and further tax reform progress in Ukraine.

The investigation related to the case of Ukrainian woman Nataliya Shapachynska. The Juvenile Court of Milan (Italy) has restricted her exercising of parental power by its Decree, on January 21, 2010. By this Decree, Vladimir Serhiyenko, Nataliya’s two-year-old son who is a citizen of Ukraine, was placed in Italian foster home.
Tetyana explained to journalists the issues related to the intercountry adoption and fostering, the determination and nature of the governing law, according to the current international contracts and conventions in the sphere of the family law. Also, associate of our firm, paid a special attention to the significance, functions and obligations of Ukrainian Consular and Diplomatic Institutions, existing mechanisms of bringing such officials to liability for their decisions, actions and/or omissions which were prejudicing for a citizen of Ukraine.
