Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm has defended the interests of Devilon Group LLC during the hearing of a case for vacating the illegally occupied areas within leased premises.

As a result of the successful work, the Kyiv Commercial Courthas decided to fully dismiss the claims filed.

Dmytro Savchuk and Olha Lyubun, associates of Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm, have attended a seminar entitled «The Changing Domain Name Landscape and New gTLDs: Business Risk and Opportunity Management».

The seminar was held with the support of the Ukrainian Bar Association, the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and BASCAP initiative group in Ukraine.

The seminar included a discussion of the resolution approved by the Board of Directors of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) in June, 2011, regarding the changes in domain name landscape and introduction of new gTLDs (generic top level domains). The discussion focused on the analysis of problems and opportunities related to the introduction of new gTLDs, as well as issues of Internet business risk management and prospects of correlation between legal protection of domain names and trademarks.

Iryna Marushko, Partner of Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm, participated in the 6th Annual Ukrainian Banking Forum, which took place in Kyiv on November 15-17.

Among the speakers at the forum were Petro Poroshenko, Chairman of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine, Stanislav Arzhevitin, Head of the Council of the Association of Ukrainian banks, Max Alier, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund in Ukraine, Vasyl Pasichnyk, CEO of the Deposit Guarantee Fund and top managers of the largest foreign and Ukrainian banks.

The issues discussed at the forum included the banking system development strategy for 2012, capital raising instruments, bank consolidation and M&A in Ukraine; there was also a debate among bank CEOs concerning the future of Ukraine’s banking system.

Iryna Marushko participated in the discussion and carried out a series of business negotiations.

On November 8, Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm represented the interests of Azovmash OJSC at the Commercial Court of Kyiv in the hearing of a case regarding a claim filed against a print publication, seeking to protect business reputation, declare the disseminated information to be inaccurate and refute such information.

Their successful work resulted in the approval by the Commercial Court of Kyiv of an amicable agreement between the parties, whereby the newspaper’s editorial office has declared the previously published information to be inaccurate, made its apologies to Azovmash OJSC for the publication in question and undertook to publish the relevant refutation.

Azovmash is a world-known producer of metallurgical and mining equipment and hoisting-and-conveying machines, as well as the leader of Ukraine’s railcar building industry. In eight months of 2011, Azovmash has produced over 10,000 freight cars, and its total volume of produce sold since the beginning of the year is more than 6.1 billion Hryvnias, which is more than the entire sales volume in 2010.

Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm and the Students League of All-Ukrainian Non-Governmental Organization “Ukrainian Bar Association» have established a joint Scholarship Contest in the area of corporate law.

The theme of this year’s contest essays will be protection of minority shareholders’ rights. The participants have to prepare a contest essay of 5 – 10 pages by answering the following questions: “What is the difference between the procedure for electing members of the supervisory board of a joint stock company according to the old and new versions of the Law of Ukraine «On Joint Stock Companies»? What is your opinion of these changes?»

Admission of contest essays will start on October 15 and continue until November 15. Contest essays should be sent by the participants to the following email address: competition@ligauba.org.ua. Only unpublished individual essays in English and Ukrainian will be considered.

By December 12, the Scholarship Commission will have determined the 10 best essays and invited their authors for a gala ceremony, where three winners will be announced and the participants will be given awards from Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm.

Maksym Lavrynovych, Managing Partner of Lavrynovych & Partners Law Firm, attended a session of the Russia Business Club devoted to the topic of «East Experience», which was held in Zurich, Switzerland, on October 11.
